With the coming of every new year comes a time of reflection of the past year and aspirations for the coming year. This year we want to take the challenge to not forsake the “good part” (Luke 10:38-42) and choose to seek first the Kingdom of God, trusting that He will take care of the rest (Matthew 6:33). Take some time over the next few days to think about what it is going to take to refocus and put God first in your life and obey all He asks of you this coming year.

One thing that must be kept in mind is that for God to be first in your life, it is going to require daily to devotion as a key component. Read this article on refocusing on what matters. If daily devotion is not in place, then nothing else will fall into place as it should. Let me give you a little hint, often times daily devotion is most successful when the first thing you do in the morning is meet with Jesus.

Also, think about the season God has you in right now in regards to the Great Commission and what God is calling you to do as a minister of the gospel to reach those around you and make disciples. We have all been called to make disciples of Jesus. No one is excluded from that command and if we choose to ignore it we will never experience all that God has for us in this life.

Finally you have to know where you are going this coming year. Create goals and stick with them. Make sure that they are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-oriented. Write them down and keep them in front of you. Review them often. Without written goals – dreams and aspirations are never realized. Create goals related to your spiritual life (ie bible reading plan), physical health, family, finances, and etc.

Questions:

  1. What is one thing you took away from the article on refocusing?
  2. What intentional structuring are you going to do this year to ensure that daily devotion to Jesus is apart of your daily life?
  3. We are all called to make disciples and carry out the Great Commission. How are you going to be intentional about reaching those around you this year?
  4. What are 3 goals you have set for 2019?
